Cramer Statement on the United State Leaving the Iran Nuclear Deal

Statement

Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement after President Trump announced he will withdraw the United States from the Iran Nuclear Deal and increase sanctions. This agreement was made in 2015 under the Obama Administration with the P5+1 partners, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany. Its intent was to lift sanctions on Iran for its compliance with inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

During the announcement today, President Trump cited the disastrous framework of the deal. It released close to $100 billion to Iran while increasing the economic resources available to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles and promote its interests in the region, and prop up the proxy regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and Hezbollah.

"Iran has proven why this deal was a bad agreement in the first place. It was a bad deal for our allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia, and threatened our national security interests. Upon receiving billions of dollars and access to world oil markets, Iran continued funding multiple terrorist organizations creating further unrest across the Middle East. Since it is too late to get back the money the Obama Administration and Senate Democrats pumped into Iran's economy, I support the President's decisions to reimpose strong sanctions."

Since 2015, Cramer has supported multiple bills to enact sanctions, while also speaking out on Iran's diplomatic failures.
