Frelinghuysen Commemorates Anniversary of September 11, 2001
September 11, 2005
Washington, DC - Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) today issued the following statement commemorating the anniversary of September 11, 2001 after attending local 9/11 memorial ceremonies.
"Today, we commemorate the fourth anniversary of September 11, 2001 and express our deepest sorrow for those Americans who lost family and friends on that tragic day. We reaffirm our pledge to never forget the nearly 700 brave New Jerseyans lost in the attacks, including the almost 90 from towns in the 11th Congressional District, as well as those who died at the Pentagon and in the fields of Pennsylvania.
"In recent weeks, America has shown its compassion and support for the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Like those living along the Gulf Coast, the people of northern New Jersey know what it is like to be united by a common sense of remembrance and grief.
"Our sadness from the images of destruction and our memories of those we lost on September 11 will forever be embedded in our hearts and minds. On the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, their faces remain fresh and the pain from their absence remains raw.
"As we remember that fateful day four years ago, we must look back not just with a heavy heart, but also with pride for the actions of Americans who stepped forward to help in our time of hardship.
"September 11 was a day when horror was met by heroism and the worst of humanity was overshadowed by the best of America.
"Together, let us honor the bravery of those who responded on 9/11 and keep us safe today, our police officers, firefighters, and emergency service personnel. Let us also pray for the service of our young men and women in uniform who, fighting terrorism across the globe, are resolved to bring justice to those who attacked us four years ago."
