Issue Position

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and our right to bear arms. I'll fight against any federal legislation that seeks to undo or preempt Indiana's concealed-carry laws and lifetime handgun licenses.

I voted in favor of the Sportsman's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2015. This legislation ensures generations of Americans will have access to federal lands for hunting, fishing, and recreationally shooting while also protecting the 2nd Amendment rights of hunters and sportsmen.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 included important pro-Second Amendment provisions, and it earned my support.

As a former prosecutor, I believe we have an obligation to do our best to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists, criminals and the mentally ill in order to protect our fellow citizens. I will not support, under any circumstances, background check legislation that leads to a national registry or extends to sales between private citizens, nor will I support an assault rifle ban.
