Cassidy, Kennedy Applaud $82 Million in GOMESA Revenue for Louisiana

U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), and John Kennedy (R-LA) today applauded U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's presentation of $188 million in GOMESA revenue sharing funding to Gulf states, including $82 million to Louisiana.

"This is a big deal: the first real money Louisiana is receiving thanks to offshore oil production in the Gulf," said Dr. Cassidy. "This is tens of millions of dollars that will go toward coastal restoration in our state, and our provision passed into law in December as part of the tax cuts bill means Louisiana will see an even higher rate of return in the years ahead."

"More of Louisiana's coast disappears every day. I am glad to finally see these GOMESA dollars coming in," said Sen. Kennedy. "This money will help us restore our beautiful coast so that we can continue to provide oil, natural gas and seafood to the rest of the nation. We need every penny that we can get to fight coastal erosion and protect our coastal communities. As the oil industry becomes more robust, I expect this revenue to increase even more."
