Dear Chairman Corker and Ranking Member Menendez:

We write to express our support of Michael Pompeo as United States Secretary of State.

Director Pompeo's dedication to serving our nation is unquestionable. After graduating first in his class from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Michael Pompeo spent five years serving in the United States Army, including in the Gulf War. A graduate of Harvard Law, he later went on to serve in the United States House of Representatives, and most recently as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The quality of his service is matched only by his commitment to the safety and betterment of our country. While representing the fourth congressional district of Kansas, Director Pompeo was a strong supporter of and advocate for our nation's surveillance programs. He understands the aggressive threat Russia poses to our democracy, is committed to denuclearizing North Korea, and is dedicated to partnering with our allies in the fight against terrorism.

We stand at a critical point in our nation's history. Now more than ever, the State Department requires a leader who understands not only the diplomatic challenges we face, but also the national security risks. Director Pompeo's expertise in national security and intelligence will be instrumental in defending U.S. sovereignty, strengthening America's alliances, and defeating our enemies.

For the aforementioned reasons, we believe Michael Pompeo is uniquely qualified to serve as our nation's top diplomat. We urge the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the U.S. Senate to move expeditiously to confirm his nomination as Secretary of State.
