Senator Warren Applauds Passage of Bipartisan Resolution Honoring Military Retirees

United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today applauded the passage of a bipartisan resolution designating April 18, 2018 as "Military Retiree Appreciation Day" to commemorate the life-long service of military retirees. The resolution, which was co-sponsored by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and passed unanimously by the Senate, encourages Americans to honor the past and continued service of the approximately two million retired service members across the United States. There are currently more than 18,000 military retirees living in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

"As the sister of three veterans, I understand the sacrifices our retired servicemembers have made to keep us safe and the importance of honoring our promises to them," said Senator Warren. "This bipartisan resolution pays tribute to those who have served our nation and who continue their dedicated service as volunteers in their local communities. I am grateful to Senator Cruz for joining me in this effort."

"Military retirees, those who served for the duration of a career and those who were medically retired, dedicated the best working years of their lives to serving their country and most continue serving as vital members in their communities," said Ted Painter of the American Military Retirees Association (AMRA). "Military retirees are honored by this well-deserved day of recognition and we thank Senators Warren and Cruz for their leadership and efforts in making Military Retiree Appreciation Day a reality."

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, and the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) joined AMRA in endorsing this resolution.

Senators Warren and Cruz serve together on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
