Rep. Comstock On FY18 Funding Bill

Statement

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after voting in support of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which funds the government for the remainder of fiscal year 2018:

"I supported this critical funding bill because it fulfills our commitment to rebuilding the nation's military and bolsters our national security, as well as provides funds for our top domestic priorities such as funding for school safety, infrastructure, medical research, the opioid epidemic, and workforce development. I appreciate that President Trump, Republicans, and Democrats came together in support of funding these important priorities for the American people."

"This is the biggest increase in defense funding in 15 years as well as the largest pay increase for our service members in eight years. It also includes a record commitment of resources to our veterans and begins construction of the wall and provides more border security."

On the domestic front; the bill includes the following -

Bolsters school safety by implementing the STOP School Violence Act and funds the National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) so that all states can follow Virginia's example which has been a leading state in sharing data with NICS.
Provides the largest federal investment to date for fighting the opioid epidemic, which President Trump has declared a national health emergency.
Includes $21 billion in new funding for infrastructure as well as funding for workforce development in career and technical education and high-growth job fields.
Increases funding for lifesaving research at the National Institutes of Health for chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease.
Maintains all existing pro-life policies such as the Hyde Amendment and it incorporated anti-human trafficking legislation to crack down on those victimizing our children."
