Rep. Ellison on National School Walkout

Statement

Date: March 14, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) issued the following statement on the national school walkout to commemorate the Parkland massacre and raise awareness about gun violence:

"Meeting with students from several public schools in Minnesota this month has confirmed something I have known for years: the epidemic of mass shootings in our society is a tragedy, and it is preventable. For years, I have championed common-sense gun safety legislation in Congress, and been blocked at every turn by politicians who are more beholden to the NRA and gun manufacturers than to families in their districts.

"Students walking out today understand that that reality is not okay, and they won't accept Republican leadership telling them any longer that their lives and futures are not valuable. The students are right: it is past time to take this fight to the streets, and demand real action on gun violence. I am inspired by their brave activism, and I will support them as we all march for our lives."
