Dr. Coburn Introduces Resolution Supporting Gold Star Mothers Day

U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today introduced a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of Gold Star Mothers Day. The measure has 11 co-sponsors.

The American Gold Star Mothers is composed of mothers who have had a child die while in service to our country. It is a federally chartered organization and works closely with many veterans' organizations.

"Gold Star Mothers have made the ultimate sacrifice of motherhood by losing their child in service to our country. It is paramount we show our gratitude and support for them by honoring that sacrifice," Dr. Coburn said. "Though words can never heal their wounds, we can let them know we will never forget their sacrifice or that of their children."

The resolution also requests President Bush issue a proclamation calling on the American people to observe Gold Star Mothers Day, which will be celebrated Sept. 25.
