Date: March 7, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

House Budget Committee Chairman Steve Womack released the following statement after the Committee conducted a Member Day hearing related to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Today's hearing, CBO Oversight: Member Day, was the fourth in a five-part series and provided the opportunity for any interested Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to testify before the Committee and engage in the ongoing conversation about CBO's mission, work products, and transparency efforts.

"While CBO directly assists the House and Senate Budget Committees, all lawmakers interact and engage with CBO. Proper oversight of this important congressional support agency requires a clear understanding of CBO's relationship with all Members," said Chairman Steve Womack. "I appreciate my colleagues for adding to this important discussion today by sharing their perspectives on current challenges, as well as ideas for potential improvements at CBO."

The final hearing in the series, CBO Oversight: Perspectives from Outside Experts, will take place on Wednesday, March 14, at 10:00 am.

Hearings in the series include:

CBO Oversight: Organizational and Operational Structure
CBO Oversight: Economic Assumptions, Baseline Construction, Cost Estimating, and Scoring
CBO Oversight: The Role of Behavioral Modeling in Scoring and Baseline Construction
