Today, five months after the horrific and heartbreaking tragedy in Las Vegas on October 1, Representative Ruben J. Kihuen reiterated his dedication to enacting legislation to reduce gun violence.

"The events in Parkland, Florida, and the overwhelming number of mass shootings that have taken place around the country, leave us no choice but to act with tireless determination to protect our children and families from senseless gun violence. These tragedies have become unfortunately commonplace in our society, but we are not powerless to prevent them from occurring in the future," said Rep. Kihuen. "Our collective anger should spur us to action, and we should not let those whose failures have created conditions that allow gun violence to permeate our schools, churches, concerts, and movie theaters to continue to block commonsense prevention measures."

Rep. Kihuen is personally invested in solving this crisis, working with his colleagues in the House and Senate to find bipartisan solutions to address gun violence. He introduced the Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act in April of last year and has cosponsored more than a dozen bills aimed at curbing gun violence. This legislation includes banning bump stocks like those used in the Las Vegas shooting, giving family members of individuals who may pose a danger to themselves or others tools to prevent gun violence, and authorizing the Center for Disease Control to research firearms safety and gun violence. In addition, Rep. Kihuen has penned multiple letters to the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee calling for a hearing on the use and legality of bump stocks.
