Statement by Senator Hagel on the Death of Former Senator Strom Thurmond

Washington, D.C. - The following is a response from U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) regarding the death of former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC):

"This is a sad day for all of us. Strom Thurmond committed his remarkable life to this country: serving in the U.S. Army, as a Governor, and as a United States Senator. Strom Thurmond will be missed as a leader, a colleague and for his tremendous contributions to our nation. He was an institution in the United States Senate. My thoughts and prayers go to the Thurmond family."
