Ellison on Budget Vote

Press Release

Date: Feb. 9, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the latest budget agreement:

"I voted no on this deal because my Republican colleagues in Congress don't seem to understand that this country is in a state of crisis. Nearly a million young Americans are hanging in limbo, because President Trump unilaterally decided to take away key protections that let them live, work, and study in the only country many of them have ever known.

It's commendable that Democrats fought for and won funding increases for key programs that help working Americans -- from community health centers to student debt relief and infrastructure. Still, the time has long since come for this body to do the right thing, and enshrine DACA protections into law as the overwhelming majority of our nation demands. Consider me a no on all future funding votes until that happens."
