House Passes Rep. Love's Sexual Harassment Settlement Bill

Rep. Mia Love's bill to stop the use of taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment cases on Capitol Hill has passed the House of Representatives, as part of H.R. 4924, bipartisan and comprehensive legislation to address how Congress considers harassment, discrimination, and retaliation violations.

Rep. Love's bill, The Stop Taxpayer Obligations to Perpetrators of Sexual Harassment Act, (H.R. 4674), would require Members of Congress to repay settlements made in claims of sexual harassment against that Member.

"This bill is long overdue, and I'm glad Congress is finally pushing it forward," Congresswoman Love said. "Taxpayers should not be paying to bail out those who have behaved badly, just because that person is a member of Congress. The consequences of sexual harassment actions are that person's responsibility."

"Members of Congress should live by the laws they create," Rep. Love added.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
