Carper, Coons, Blunt Rochester Statement on Water Contamination in the Town of Blades

Statement

Date: Feb. 9, 2018
Location: Wilmington, DE
Issues: Environment

Today, U.S. Senators Tom Carper, Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (all D-Del.) released this statement today following the report that three of the town's drinking water wells have concentrations of perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) above the human health advisory level and a drinking and cooking ban has been put in place:

"Access to safe and clean drinking water is an absolutely essential and basic human necessity, and we are extremely troubled by the situation in Blades. We are doing everything we can to understand the causes behind what has happened and determine how we can help Governor Carney address the pressing needs of the families affected in Sussex County. Our immediate and collective goal is to ensure an adequate supply of emergency water resources are available in Blades, and we are moving quickly to address the underlying problem. We encourage all impacted residents to reach out to our offices so we may direct them to any available support."
