Rep. Culberson Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution to Keep Government Open

Statement

Date: Jan. 22, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Representative John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government until February 8, 2018:

"While I'm very pleased the government shutdown has ended, the shutdown was completely unnecessary to begin with. All the Democrats accomplished was causing anxiety to men and women in uniform, both in military and law enforcement, and to all the people who suffered from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

"As Congress negotiates over the next few weeks on a longer term funding deal, passing a hurricane recovery bill remains my top priority. Houston has suffered three catastrophic floods in the last three years, and we cannot wait another fifteen to twenty years to finish the flood control projects that must be built to protect our city."
