Rep. Bacon Votes to Keep Government Open

Statement

Date: Jan. 18, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released the following statement after voting to fund the government:

"I voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution (CR) which funds the government through February 16. This CR includes an extension for funding of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through Fiscal Year 2023. While not perfect, passing a CR and keeping our government open is better than shutting the government down and prohibiting hundreds of thousands of Americans, including our service men and women, from receiving a pay check. Our military is being held hostage by the Senate over unrelated issues. We have the smallest Army since before World War II, the smallest Navy since before World War I, and the smallest and oldest Air Force we have ever had. I will continue working in Congress to ensure we pass the full defense budget that has already passed through both chambers with bipartisan support five times. Our men and women in uniform deserve more."
