Senator David Perdue Votes To Further Counterterrorism Efforts

Statement

Date: Jan. 18, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA), a member of the Armed Services Committee, comments on the Senate's action to allow U.S. intelligence agencies to continue collecting communications data on any foreign power or agent engaged in espionage or terrorism:

"The world is more dangerous than any time in my life. Now more than ever, we must remain vigilant in protecting the homeland. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is a vital intelligence tool that helps further our counterterrorism efforts worldwide and keep Americans safe. In fact, these authorities have recently been used to target ISIS leadership and previously foiled the 2009 New York subway bombing plot. This program is critical to our country's fight against terrorism. Without it our nation is at a clear disadvantage."
