Hoyer Statement on the Increase of Americans Without Health Insurance Under the Trump Administration

Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the annoucement that the number of Americans without health insurance increased by 3 million last year under the Trump Administration:

"After years of bringing down the number of uninsured Americans to historic lows under the Obama Administration, it is deeply disappointing to see that figure jump by over 3 million people in 2017. President Trump and Republicans in Congress took every step possible to sabotage and undermine the law, driving consumers away and leading insurers to reduce coverage options in the insurance marketplaces. In their recently passed tax bill, Republicans further destabilized insurance markets and put more Americans at risk of losing access to affordable health care by repealing the requirement that all Americans obtain health coverage. Democrats will continue to defend the Affordable Care Act and work to build on its successes so that all Americans have access to affordable health care."
