Maloney Statement on Vote Against Short-Term Spending Bill

Statement

Date: Dec. 21, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

After voting no on the Republican short-term spending bill in the House today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) issued the following statement.

"This spending bill fails to address the huge list of urgent, overdue priorities facing our country. This empty, short-term Republican spending package leaves out any relief for DREAMers, underfunds veterans' services and efforts to combat opioid abuse, and gives the Children's Health Insurance Program just three more months of life instead of the long-term security our kids deserve. I do not believe in shutting down our government but I cannot support another short-term funding patch that is nothing more than kicking the can down the road when we should be doing our jobs now. Working families, veterans, children, and the countless communities across our nation who are fighting the opioid epidemic deserve a better deal.
