Banks Supports Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

Statement

Date: Dec. 6, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today released the following statement after voting for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act:

"Protecting the constitutionally-guaranteed Second Amendment rights of Hoosiers is one of my top legislative priorities. While I would have preferred that the legislation voted on today -- which contains two separate issues -- be debated separately, the reciprocity reforms in this bill are too important not to support. This bill will give law-abiding citizens the ability to protect themselves when traveling across state lines, a significant step forward in exercising our Second Amendment rights. I will continue to protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners."

Background:
This legislation passed the House today 231-198. The bill would affirm that Americans who are legally qualified to carry concealed handguns in one state can also carry in other states who allow their residents to do so. The legislation also paves a path forward for appealing wrongful National Instant Criminal Background Check System denials and addresses record inaccuracies. The legislation is also supported by the National Rifle Association.
