Congressman MacArthur Urges Phil Murphy to Call on NJ House Dems to Fund CHIP

Statement

Date: Dec. 21, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Tom MacArthur urged Governor-Elect Phil Murphy to call on New Jersey's Democratic Members of Congress to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

"Today, I will vote for the third time this year to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), while most Democrats will vote against it for the third time," said Congressman MacArthur. "Given Governor-Elect Murphy's recent concern about federal issues, I am urging him to advocate for New Jersey's children and call on my Democrat colleagues in the House from New Jersey to reach across the aisle to join me in voting to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program."

On Background:

This is the THIRD time Republicans will vote to fund CHIP and the THIRD time most Democrats will vote AGAINST funding this program.

CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act (HR 3922) on 11/3/17
HJ Res 123 on 12/7/17
Additionally, The Washington Post has thoroughly debunked the idea that Congress sacrificed CHIP to deal with taxes, which is in direct contradiction with this December 7 tweet from Governor-Elect Murphy: "It is unconscionable that Congress has failed to reauthorize health insurance for America's children while passing a tax bill that hurts their families. Hundreds of thousands of NJ kids who rely on CHIP need this now. The bill is there & must be passed."
