Rep. Jenkins Votes to Fund CHIP, WV Disaster Aid

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement today after voting to keep the government open, provide about $3 billion in critical funding for CHIP, and bring more than $30 million in disaster aid to West Virginia:

"I remain very disappointed that Senate Democrats won't come to the table to work out a long-term reauthorization of CHIP. The House voted nearly two months ago to reauthorize this critical program, yet Senate Democrats weren't on board. Today's vote provides about $3 billion for CHIP, and I hope my colleagues will set aside partisan politics and vote to secure this critical program for West Virginia's children," Rep. Jenkins said.

The bills passed by the House today provide about $3 billion in short-term CHIP money to keep state CHIP programs funded, as well as continued funding for community health centers. It also includes more than $30 million in continued flood relief and mitigation efforts for West Virginia through the Community Development Block Grant program.

The legislation also provides critical funding and support for our military and national defense.

The House passed a five-year reauthorization bill in November, which Rep. Jenkins strongly supported, but the full Senate has yet to take up a CHIP reauthorization bill.
