Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 2228, the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act of 2017, introduced by Representative Susan Brooks (IN-5) on April 28, 2017 under suspension of the rules. This legislation would direct the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to develop resources to equip local law enforcement agencies to address mental health challenges faced by officers.

"American law enforcement officials protect citizens from harm. In return, we must offer them protection from the stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges that come with their service," said Congressman Scott Taylor. "This bill puts resources in the hands of local, state, and tribal law enforcement to address their specific needs. I am proud to support this bill and pledge my continued support for our law enforcement officers."
