KENNEDY CALLS ON FDA TO PUT ASIDE RIGHT WING POLITICS

Today Dr. Susan Wood, Assistant Commissioner for Women's Health, resigned over the FDA's decision on " Plan B", emergency contraception. On Friday, when the announcement was made by the FDA, Senator Edward M. Kennedy expressed his disappointment in the delay. Today he issued the following statement in response to Dr. Wood's action.

" I commend Dr. Wood's courageous decision to resign on principle over the Administration's indefensible actions on emergency contraception. Dr. Wood's integrity should be a lesson for an Administration that too often values right wing politics over science and public health. When it comes to Plan B, it's high time to put aside right wing politics and put science and women's needs back in the driver's seat."
