Release: Rep. Khanna's Bipartisan Valor Act Signed Into Law, Opens Doors For Veterans To Apprenticeship Programs

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, HR 3929, the Veteran Apprenticeship and Labor Opportunity Reform (VALOR) Act, was signed into law by the President of the United States. Currently, Rep. Ro Khanna is the only freshman Democrat, in either the House or the Senate, to have a bill signed into law.

Until now, private employers who offer apprenticeship programs in more than one state would register with each state approval agency individually. This trail of paperwork and burdensome review process would often discourage employers from opening these apprenticeship programs to veterans.

The VALOR Act streamlines the registration process for employers while still allowing approval agencies to certify programs, and gives veterans more opportunities to gain employment through apprenticeship programs.

"Apprenticeship programs allow our nation's finest to build the skills needed to compete in the 21st century job market and the technology revolution. I'm pleased to see the President decide in favor of removing administrative hurdles and offering more apprenticeships to veterans," said Rep. Khanna, a member of House Armed Services Committee and the bill's sponsor.

"This is a critical step in ensuring that our veterans have gainful employment and encourages a diverse range of companies to offer apprenticeship programs. Thank you to all who have played a role in making this bill into law."
