Pelosi Statement on Announcement of Bipartisan Effort to Mandate Anti-Harassment, Anti-Discrimination Training

Statement

Date: Nov. 24, 2017
Location: San Francisco, CA

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following the announcement of a bipartisan resolution that would require all Members of the House of Representatives, staff, interns and detailees to undergo anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training:

"This long overdue effort to mandate training is a critical first step in our efforts to address sexual harassment on Capitol Hill, but Congress must do more. It is imperative that Congress pass further legislation to reform the Office of Compliance and the Congressional Accountability Act to put an end to the days of secret settlements paid for by taxpayer dollars.

"Congresswoman Jackie Speier has led the way for us on this critical issue and continues to do so as the lead Democratic sponsor of the resolution announced today. I also applaud Ranking Member Bob Brady for his efforts in ensuring that the Committee on House Administration will continue to closely examine what next steps the House will take to reform this broken system.

"We must ensure that the Congress has a climate of dignity and respect with zero tolerance for harassment, bullying, discrimination or abuse."
