Hultgren Statement on Tax Reform Legislation

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

U.S. Representatives Randy Hultgren (IL-14) released a statement following the announcement of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Full text and summary is available at fairandsimple.gop.

"Our current tax code is complex, costly and time consuming. It hurts the ability of American businesses to grow and create new middle class jobs, and for individuals to cover basic household costs. Illinois families are hit especially hard with heavy income and property taxes. It's time for real reforms that simplify the tax code, lower taxes on all Americans and their families and stimulate job growth," said Rep. Hultgren. "I am encouraged by a number of provisions in this proposal, such as the inclusion of my bill H.R. 1425, the Bring Small Businesses Back Tax Reform Act, which cuts the overall small business tax rate to 25 percent. Some Illinois companies are paying up to 40 percent in federal taxes. This relief gives small businesses--the engine of our economy--the freedom, means and flexibility to expand and create jobs.

"Introducing a bill is the first step in the legislative process. As the bill is debated in the House, I want to hear from my constituents in Illinois about the provisions of the bill. Please, read the summary or text and let me know what matters most to you in tax reform!"
