Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) and Congresswoman Ann Wagner (MO-02), co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on ASEAN and members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement welcoming Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the United States:

"Prime Minister Lee's visit is an opportunity to build on decades of cooperation and coordination between the United States and Singapore. We welcome him to Washington and appreciate his steadfast commitment to the U.S.-Singapore relationship.

"Singapore is one of the United States' closest partners in Asia. A commitment to peace and prosperity, not only for our two nations, but for the Asia-Pacific as a whole, underpins our strategic relationship.

"At a time of rapid change in Asia, we appreciate Singapore's continual pursuit of effective, multilateral solutions to emergent challenges. This includes Singapore's commitment to strengthening ASEAN and promoting unity in Southeast Asia. We also commend Singapore for its promotion of a rules-based order in Asia that respects the rights of all states on the basis of international law and widely-accepted norms.

"The Congressional Caucus on ASEAN looks forward to continuing our work with Singapore in promoting U.S.-ASEAN relations and expanding the pace and scope of Congressional engagement with Southeast Asia."
