U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

"At over 70,000 pages long, our current tax code is broken, complicated and full of loopholes for special interests; as such, I agree with most Americans that it is a "swamp code' designed by DC insiders. Because it has not been updated in over 30 years, it limits opportunity for hardworking American families and slows our economy. With today's unveiling of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we are putting forth a 21st century tax system that strengthens our economy, keeps American businesses competitive and allows working class Americans to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks. Our plan lowers tax rates for families and businesses, doubles the standard deduction, repeals the death tax and the alternative minimum tax, expands the child tax credit, encourages American investment and makes Main Street job creators more competitive. I applaud Chairman Kevin Brady and the Ways & Means Committee for their hard work on setting the foundation for a pro-growth, fair and simple tax reform bill that will jump start our economy, and which will benefit hardworking American families through job creation, fairer taxes and bigger paychecks."
