Statement from Congressman Denny Heck on Death of Staff Sergeant Bryan C. Black in Niger

Statement

After receiving news of the death of Puyallup native Staff Sergeant Bryan C. Black from the Department of Defense, U.S. Representative Denny Heck (WA-10) released the following statement:

"Staff Sergeant Bryan C. Black was a decorated Green Beret and served as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant. Puyallup is a tight-knit community, so any loss hits the community hard, but the loss of Sergeant Black is devastating for the entire 10th Congressional district, as well as the country as a whole. The deaths of Sergeant Black, Staff Sergeant Jeremiah Johnson, Staff Sergeant Dustin Wright, and Sergeant. La David T. Johnson in Niger serve as a painful reminder to all of us that the men and women who put on the uniform are undertaking a duty that puts them in harm's way every day. We should never forget any one of them and the amazing work they do in some of the most hostile and dangerous parts of the world.

"In the days, months, and years to come, we will keep Sergeant Black's family and friends in our hearts and work to honor his memory. May his service and sacrifice for our country inspire all of us to give back in a way that would make him proud."
