House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding President Trump's Iran strategy:

"Today, President Trump clearly outlined the fundamental flaws of the Iran nuclear agreement and that regime's dangerous track record. From the opening pages of the agreement with hollow claims to usher in regional and international peace, to empty promises of inspections "anytime and anywhere,' this agreement does nothing to ensure that Iran will never get a nuclear weapon. Under the agreement, Iran exploits the loopholes, and the flawed sunset provisions will lift the arms and ballistic missile embargos on Iran in a matter of years.

"Iran's belligerence has not been contained, but the regime is emboldened. Iran's support for terrorism and its actions in the region have further destabilized the Middle East and expanded its hostile influence. The regime also continues to test ballistic missiles -- the vehicle that would deliver a nuclear weapon -- as it calls for the destruction of Israel and the United States.

"Fortunately, President Trump has outlined a comprehensive strategy to curtail Iran's dangerous nuclear ambitions. I commend the President for taking critical steps to address these real threats from Iran's rogue regime, implementing additional sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as passed by Congress, and the administration's commitment to fix the underlying flaws of the nuclear deal to end Iran's nuclear program once and for all."
