Today, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), passed H.R. 1698, the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act. Introduced by Chairman Royce, the legislation expands sanctions against Iran for its illicit ballistic missile program.

On H.R. 1698, Chairman Royce said: "Today's important bill requires a comprehensive investigation to identify and designate the companies, banks, and individuals -- both inside and outside Iran -- which supply the regime's missile and conventional weapons programs, subjecting them to sanctions.

"As former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter warned, "the I in ICBM stands for intercontinental, which means having the capability from flying from Iran to the United States.' There is no question that the U.S. must take strong action now to curb Iran's dangerous pursuit of ballistic missiles."

Additionally, the committee passed the Taiwan Travel Act (H.R. 535), introduced by Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH), which encourages visits between the United States and Taiwan at all levels.
