Rep. Soto: Repealing Clean Power Plan Harms Americans and Economy

Statement

U.S. Representative Darren Soto released the following statement today after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced plans to repeal the Clean Power Act, policy which sets limits on carbon pollution from fossil fuel power plants.

"The Trump administration's decision to rescind back policy curbing climate pollution from power plants is a reckless step back in the efforts to tackle climate change. Cancelling our nationwide limits on emissions would dangerously contribute to heat waves and rising sea-levels, factors that are strengthening weeather-related disasters.

"Thousands of American families felt firsthand the destructive effects of global warming this year. Wildfires are currently raging throughout the West, and many are still facing the consequences of devastating hurricanes in Texas, Puerto Rico, and my home state of Florida. It is baffling that after all of the natural disasters we've endured, the administration is proposing policy that would harm Americans and cause even further economic damage.

"Administrator Scott Pruitt and the EPA are at odds with leading data that consistently proves the health and economic benefits of cutting carbon dioxide emissions. The Clean Power Plan is not "a war on coal", rather a step in the right direction for America and the world. I oppose this repeal and will continue to be an advocate for our environment."
