Gardner Returns From Puerto Rico Visit

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) returned from a bicameral Congressional Delegation trip to Puerto Rico to assess the hurricane-ravaged territory. Gardner was asked by the White House to attend in his role as Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee. Also joining the tour were four of his senate colleagues, senior officials from the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense.

"It was important to see the hurricane damage first-hand and meet with Governor Ricardo Rossello and our first responders who have been working so hard to help the people of Puerto Rico," said Gardner. "Our first priority must be restoring power to 100 percent of the island and I will continue working with the Administration to achieve this goal as quickly as possible. I am committed to finding both short-term and long-term solutions to help our fellow Americans."

During his time on the American island, Senator Gardner completed an aerial tour of the most damaged parts of the island and received briefings from the Coast Guard, Homeland Security, and FEMA about the next steps that are needed for cleanup efforts and power restoration. Currently, more than 90 percent of the island is still without power.

Senator Gardner also met with Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello and other local officials and leaders in the community. Additionally, he completed a tour of the Port of San Juan led by the San Juan Port Authority and Coast Guard leadership.
