Date: Oct. 5, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham voted against the Republican budget today that would sell out American veterans, seniors, children, and workers, in order to give the rich more handouts.

"Congressional Republicans are pushing these reckless budget cuts that hurt working families and explode our deficit, so they can pave the way for irresponsible tax breaks for the wealthiest 1-percent," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "GOP leaders are embracing President Trump's outrageous tax plan even though the Federal Reserve warned it could lead to inflation and unstainable federal debt."

The GOP budget plan:

Destroys Middle Class Jobs -- Steals hundreds of billions of dollars from critical job-creating investments in infrastructure, job training, clean energy and research and development.

Ends Medicare Guarantee, Guts Medicaid -- Destroys the Medicare guarantee seniors depend on, and inflicts a trillion dollars in cuts on hard-working Americans on Medicaid: veterans, seniors with long-term care needs, children and rural communities.

Harms Veterans -- Cuts billions from veterans benefits over the next ten years. Also, millions of veterans will lose the SNAP and Medicaid benefits they rely on.

Abandons Rural America -- Inflicts deep cuts on farming communities, while working families struggle with soaring food prices and a hurting farm economy.

Guts Education & Job Training -- Devastates education and job training initiatives, while making college more expensive for working families.
