Wyden Statement on Senate Budget Resolution

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement in response to the Senate Budget Committee's proposed 2018 budget resolution:

"The Senate budget resolution released today would begin the process of providing lifeline funding for rural counties through Secure Rural Schools and the Payments in Lieu of Taxes programs. In addition, it makes room in the budget for necessary wildfire fighting funds," Wyden said.

"But at the same time, Republicans are taking the first step toward opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas development and selling off our public lands. The budget resolution does not need to set up a false choice between rural economies, and I will be fighting to ensure Senate Republicans do not get their wish of cashing in on America's treasures. This resolution also includes provisions that grant broad leeway for Republicans to try again to build a border wall to further divide us, damage our public education system and choose bankers over consumers. I will be working to ensure this budget does not betray our core American values or squander taxpayer dollars."
