Rush Joins E&C Democrats in Questioning Equifax CEO

U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) today, made the following statement to accompany his release of a letter sent by Democratic members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to Equifax Chairman and CEO, Richard F. Smith:

"The information surrounding the Equifax data breach are deeply troubling. At this point, we know that over 100 million Americans had their personal information leaked. This amount alone is staggering. When coupled with the sensitive nature of the data, it is distressing. Given that this happened at one of our nation's three consumer reporting agency -- organizations that play such an influential role in today's economy -- it is downright infuriating.

"For these reasons, I am pleased to join my Democratic colleagues in demanding answers from Equifax. This is the first step in determining what went wrong and will help lay an important foundation in preventing future leaks.

"I understand that many of my constituents are fearful of what this means to their personal credit and finances. I urge everyone, whether you believe you are impacted or not, to visit the Federal Trade Commission's website to determine your next steps."
