U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, released the following statement today after U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis met with leaders at U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM):
"I appreciate Secretary Mattis taking the opportunity today to visit STRATCOM, whose nuclear forces serve as the "bedrock' of our national security. The excellent work of the men and women of STRATCOM is invaluable, especially as the U.S. confronts a rising intercontinental ballistic missile threat from North Korea. I'm happy to see Secretary Mattis pay close attention to the modernization of our nuclear arsenal. This a top priority of mine as the Chairman of Strategic Forces Subcommittee and something the Senate Armed Services Committee strongly supported in this year's National Defense Authorization Act."
