Issues: Defense

An amendment offered by Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) was today adopted by voice by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Grothman's amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations Act (H.R. 3219) transfers $30 million in funding from the Department of Defense's Operations and Maintenance account to the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program. The move will bring the funding for the program in line with what the House recently authorized in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018.

The JLTV demonstrates many significant improvements over the current vehicle fleet, including strengthened protection for passengers against battlefield threats, more payload capacity and better automotive performance.

The JLTV program also supports American jobs as it has more than 300 suppliers from 30 states.

"This amendment helps further ensure that our men and women in uniform have the highest-grade equipment while protecting our freedom," said Grothman. "Pure and simple, the JLTV platform will save lives and improve our troops' effectiveness in the field.

Grothman also voted in favor of H.R. 3219, which passed the House by a vote of 235-192.
