Congresswoman Pingree Statement in Observance of Memorial Day

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement today in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29:

"I hope we can all take a moment this Memorial Day to think about and honor those who have given their lives to defend this country. Throughout our nation's history, Mainers have been among the first to answer the call to service. They were all prepared to put themselves danger, and many of them lost their lives performing those duties. Some of these losses are still fresh in our mind--like Falmouth native Kyle Milliken, who was killed in Somalia just three weeks ago. Others reside in our memory, and many more we know only from faces in pictures or faded names in quiet cemeteries. This weekend, we hold them all in our hearts and thank them for what their sacrifices have made possible."
