Hoyer Statement After Voting Against House Republicans' Omnibus Appropriations Bill

Statement

Date: Sept. 14, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after voting against House Republicans' omnibus appropriations bill:

"The omnibus appropriations bill, which passed the House of Representatives this morning, is an extremely reckless and careless piece of legislation, and would have severe consequences for families in the Fifth District. Not only does the legislation rescind $200 million in funds already allocated for the fully consolidated FBI headquarters relocation project, but it furthers the Trump Administration's attack on the Environmental Protection Agency and efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, the omnibus cuts funds for programs vital to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and prohibits funds from being used to help Marylanders sign up for affordable health coverage during the upcoming open enrollment period.

"Instead of wasting time on political posturing, I urge my Republican colleagues to work with Democrats on a bipartisan budget agreement that responsibly funds the government and lifts the sequestration caps. I hope that my colleagues in the Senate will reject this bill outright."
