Walberg: Time for Commonsense Steps to Stop Asian Carp

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) released the following statement today in response to reports that an Asian carp was found nine miles from Lake Michigan inside the electric barrier.

"Our economy and quality of life in Michigan depends upon maintaining a healthy Great Lakes ecosystem," said Congressman Walberg. "Invasive species like Asian carp pose a real threat and today's news increases the urgency to take bipartisan, commonsense steps to protect the Great Lakes. The administration should promptly release the Brandon Road Study so we can move forward with long-term solutions to combat Asian carp before it's too late."

Earlier this week, Congressman Walberg co-sponsored H.R. 2983, the Stop Asian Carp Now Act, along with 31 members of the House of Representatives. The bipartisan bill compels the Army Corps of Engineers to release the Brandon Road Study and provide a roadmap on how best to prevent Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes.
