Statement

Date: April 19, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), issued the following statement marking the 2nd anniversary of Mr. Freddie Gray's death:

"Like many in our community, I still mourn the death of Mr. Freddie Gray. His family, friends and loved ones will always be in my prayers. Mr. Gray moved many in our City to demand a better Baltimore for all residents and he moved us to act.

"I have been proud to see our community, faith, and business leaders take steps to improve our police department, expand economic opportunity for our neighbors living in historically underserved communities, and give more of our young people a chance to become all God meant for them to be.

"We must continue to cast our gaze forward as we implement the consent decree for the Baltimore City Police Department and we must continue to work toward becoming a city where all residents are valued, respected and provided the opportunity to thrive and prosper."
