Rep. Mimi Walters released the following statement following North Korea's most recent ballistic missile test. The launch, likely conducted to commemorate North Korea's "Victory Day," reportedly landed within the waters of Japan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Said Rep. Walters, "Today's missile launch by North Korea is the latest in an alarming string of threats from this reckless regime. This most recent provocation follows Pyongyang's first successful intercontinental ballistic missile launch earlier this month. U.S. intelligence officials believe these escalations indicate North Korea may be able to develop a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to the United States as early as next year.
"I urge the President to quickly sign into law the expanded sanctions against North Korea passed by Congress this week, and to continue working closely with our allies across the globe to counter these threats and protect Americans."
