Blunt: Government Accountability Office Report Validates National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Process in Selecting North St. Louis for New West Headquarters

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement today after the independent U.S. Government Accountability Office released its analysis of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's site selection process for the new NGA West headquarters. The analysis finds that the "NGA's process substantially met the characteristics that demonstrate a well-documented, comprehensive, and unbiased [Analysis of Alternatives] process."

"The GAO report released today confirms that the NGA, under the leadership of Director Robert Cardillo, completed a high-quality review process in its selection of North St. Louis as the site for the new NGA West headquarters," Blunt said. "Missouri is home to more than 3,000 dedicated, highly-skilled NGA personnel who, for more than 70 years, have provided critical intelligence and combat support to keep our country safe. The findings in the GAO report provide further momentum for moving this project forward."

Since 2010, Blunt has helped lead efforts to ensure that the NGA West facility, and the thousands of jobs it supports, remain in Missouri.

In March 2016, Blunt joined St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay, and Governor Jay Nixon at a press conference to highlight the advantages of the St. Louis site.

And, In March 2015, Blunt, along with Senator Claire McCaskill (Mo.), sent a letter to NGA Director Robert Cardillo urging the NGA to keep its facility, its dedicated employees, and its critical mission in Missouri. Blunt met with Director Cardillo several times over the past year to underscore the benefits of maintaining the NGA site in St. Louis.

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee, Blunt has consistently advocated for funding for the new NGA facility.
