Rep. Ruben Kihuen to Testify on Yucca Mountain Before Subcommittee on Environment, Committee on Energy and Commerce

Press Release

Date: April 24, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Ruben J. Kihuen announced that the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Environment, Committee on Energy and Commerce, have accepted his request to testify before a hearing scheduled this Wednesday on the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2017. The hearing will touch on the controversial use of Yucca Mountain, which lies in Nevada's Fourth Congressional District, as a nuclear waste repository:

"I am grateful to Chairman Shimkus and Ranking Member Tonko, for the opportunity to testify before this subcommittee hearing. The residents of Nevada have the right to have their voices heard and deserve to be part of the conversation, especially when it concerns their safety and security. Once again, forces outside of Nevada are just trying to pawn off their problems by dumping nuclear waste in our backyard -- as a state with no nuclear energy facilities, it is exceedingly unfair that Nevada is asked to serve as the dumping ground for the rest of the country's waste. I look forward to sharing concerns from my constituents regarding this project with the Subcommittee on Environment."
