Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV- 3) released the following statement in response to Vice President Mike Pence's tie-breaking vote to eliminate Title X funding, restricting access to women's health services:

"Today's vote by Vice President Mike Pence shows that he is more willing to put partisan ideology over protecting women's access to life-saving health services," said Congresswoman Jacky Rosen.

"Title X is the nation's cornerstone family-planning program for low-income women and families. That's why I voted against measures to restrict women's health when it came up for a vote in mid-February on the House floor. Last year, Planned Parenthood, the nation's leading health care provider for women, administered over 4,000 cancer screenings in Nevada alone. Make no mistake, restricting healthcare will only put women's lives at risk by significantly limiting critical health services such as access to contraception and cancer screenings."

The Family Planning Program was enacted in 1970 as Title X of the Public Health Service Act. It provides grants to public and nonprofit agencies for family planning services, research, and training. It is the only federal program devoted solely to family planning and related preventative health services. Title X dollars provide critical funding for services related to contraception, fertility, pregnancy, and cervical cancer screenings.
