Governor Chris Sununu Statement on Individual Market Stabilization

Statement

Date: July 19, 2017
Location: Concord, NH

Today following the news that the New Hampshire Department of Insurance is taking action to stabilize the state's individual market, Governor Chris Sununu issued the following:

"While New Hampshire alone cannot fix the fundamental flaws of Obamacare, we can try to take aggressive action to explore options to mitigate its consequences on the state's individual market. I applaud the Department of Insurance for beginning the conversation on how a 1332 waiver might be used to stabilize the individual market. I do not support the assessment on health insurance carriers because I fear those costs will be passed along to consumers. I understand this is where the conversation is beginning. The waiver process involves public hearings and ample opportunity will be available to make adjustments, improvements or expand the scope of the requested waiver. Obamacare is collapsing under its own weight and I appreciate the effort by Commissioner Sevigny and his team to stabilize our market. The federal government also must act but we will do what we can to help Granite Staters who rely on the individual market for their health care."
