Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) issued the following statement after House Republicans revealed their long-awaited health care legislation, The American Health Care Act:
"Every American deserves quality, affordable health care, yet my Republican colleagues seek to limit access. As they race to pass a bill without Congressional Budget Office review, their plan offers less coverage, fewer protections, and higher costs. It hurts the elderly, the sick, and the poor, and rewards the young and the wealthy.
"The plan is another example of broken promises from the Republican Party. It does nothing to help Americans keep the coverage they have, nor does it protect people with pre-existing conditions. And, it will force the poor and America's working class families to pay more. The plan weakens Medicare's financial future, dramatically increases costs for seniors, and endangers the health of millions who depend on Medicaid.
"The GOP had seven years to develop a replacement for the Affordable Care Act. What they have offered the American people is an insult! An all-out war on affordable health care in America has been declared, and we are ready to fight."
